Accounts FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
How many e-mail accounts are included with my BCPL.NET account?
If you want a private mailbox for each family member, one option is for other family members to use one of the free
e-mail services available on the Web. You'll find a partial list on
the Baltimore County Library web site. In this scenario your family would use your BCPL.NET account to access the Internet, and would
use the web browser on your PC to access your e-mail at one of these free sites. Many of our customers do this.
Can anything be changed on an Internet account by someone other than
the owner?
No, only the owner can request any changes.
Are there any restrictions on where I can go on the Internet?
No, you can go anywhere you want on the Internet. The only restrictions you could run into
will be on the web pages you are attempting to reach. We do not provide any filtering options
for your e-mail or Internet access. If a customer wishes to restrict access to the Internet
through their account it is their responsibility to purchase and install the necessary software
on their computer.
Should I check my BCPL.NET e-mail account?
Yes! Our primary way of keeping you up-to-date is through your BCPL.NET e-mail account. If you
do not use your e-mail account, it is your responsibility to keep informed of the latest BCPL.NET
updates by going to www.bcpl.net/news/
I have an e-mail account with an ISP other than BCPL.NET, is there a way to forward my
BCPL.NET e-mail to one of my other accounts?
Yes, you can find instructions on how to forward your e-mail here.
You can also contact the Help Desk to have them walk you through the procedure.
If I'm not happy with my account, can I get a refund?
Yes. If you cancel your account within 30 days of your activation date you will recieve the $120
account fee minus the $25 activation fee. If you cancel anytime after 30 days you will receive a
prorated refund.
If I renew an account at a Baltimore County Public Library why is my
account not immediately processed?
For security reasons, only the staff at the Internet Accounts Department have access to and can
alter BCPL.NET accounts. All payments are received and processed at the branches, credit card
payments and the paperwork are forwarded via interdepartmental mail to the Internet Accounts
Department to be processed. The Department is open Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-5 p.m so any renewals dropped off at a branch between Friday and Sunday will not arrive until Monday
afternoon at the earliest.
Can accounts be renewed for anything less than a 12 month period?
No, to keep down the overhead associated with account processing (ie: postage, paper, labor,
etc.) we only have a 12 month renewal option.
How do I contact the BCPL.NET Accounts Department?
You can contact us at the Department using the following information: M-F/9 a.m.-5 p.m.; phone:
410-887-4172; e-mail:
