An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program, is a utility that allows you to transfer or copy files from your computer onto the Internet and vice versa.

Internet Explorer versions 5.0 or later come with a built in FTP program that is very simple and effective.

NOTE : You must be connected to the Internet before attempting to upload/download files.

Open Internet Explorer and type ftp://username@mail.bcpl.net/ in the address bar.

Type your username in place of username

Your username is not jdoe !

FTP using Internet Explorer

Enter your BCPL.NET password and click Log On at the prompt.

When you type in your password, only black circles or stars will appear. This is perfectly normal.

WARNING - Do not check the Save password box if you are at a public computer unless you want to give everyone the power to edit your web page!

FTP using Internet Explorer

Double click the public_html folder to open it.

The public_html folder is the folder in your directory that is accessible to the world. This is where your web page files go.

You can now drag and drop files from your computer into the public_html folder on the server.

Files can be deleted, renamed and moved within folders just like it can be done in Windows Explorer

If you prefer to use an FTP program seperate from Internet Explorer, please see FTP in Windows.
