Disabling Norton's Email Scanning

Norton's email virus scanning can sometimes cause email downloads to fail. To fix this, turn off the email scanning. As long as Auto-Protect is on, Norton should still be able to prevent viruses from infecting your computer.


Click the Norton icon in the lower right hand corner.

Click Open Norton...

Norton Menu

Click Options.

Click Norton Antivirus.

Click Email.

Uncheck Scan incoming Email.
Uncheck Scan outgoing Email.

Click Auto-Protect.


Make sure both boxes, Enable Auto-Protect and Start Auto-Protect when Windows start up, are checked.

Click OK.

If you still cannot send/or receive email, contact the Help Desk.
