----------------------------------------- INCOMING E-MAIL INTERRUPTED MONDAY MAY 26 ----------------------------------------- Some time in the early afternoon of Memorial Day the Sendmail "daemon", which takes delivery of incoming mail, died. While it was down we were unable to receive e-mail from remote sites or from BCPL account holders using PPP-based mail programs. I didn't become aware of the problem until about 11:15 PM, at which time I restarted the Sendmail daemon and mail started pouring in again. This will not result in loss of incoming mail. When remote sites cannot connect to us to deliver mail they either queue it for future delivery or send it to a "mail exchanger" at UUNET, which delivers it to us later. As I write this (11:50 PM) mail is still pouring in from the mail exchanger! Sorry about the interruption. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this, or about anything else related to your BCPL Internet Account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk.
