----------------------- USENET NEWS SERVER DOWN 27 Oct 1997 ----------------------- Access to Usenet News this past weekend was pretty unreliable, with the news server (news.abs.net) down more than it was up. We have just received word from ABSnet that the problem has been diagnosed as failure of two disk drives in the server's primary disk array, and that all attempts to get those drives to work reliably have failed. ABSnet has ordered a complete new disk array, but even with express delivery it will not arrive until Tuesday. Therefore Usenet News service from ABSnet will probably remain unavailable until late Tuesday or some time Wednesday. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this, or about anything else related to your BCPL Internet Account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk.
