------------------ USENET NEWS UPDATE ------------------ As explained in System News on October 27, the news server at ABSnet (news.abs.net) is down due to the failure of two disk drives in the server's disk array. I also mentioned that ABSnet had ordered a replacement disk array, with delivery expected today, October 28. The bad news is that the expected delivery date is now October 29, so news.abs.net will not be back on line until some time on October 30 at the earliest. The good news is that ABSnet has arranged with another provider to let BCPL customers access his news server until the server at ABSnet is back on line. If you want to try it, specify "news2.abs.net" instead of "news.abs.net" as the NNTP server (news server) in your news reader software. That server is not actually at ABSnet, but ABSnet has set up an alias pointing to the actual location. Access to news2.abs.net will cease to work once news.abs.net is back on line. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this, or about anything else related to your BCPL Internet Account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk.
