---------------------------- NEWS.ABS.NET IS BACK ON LINE ---------------------------- ABSnet's Usenet News server, news.abs.net, is repaired and has been running since Thursday morning. If you reconfigured your news reader to point at news2.abs.net during the down time, you should now switch back to news.abs.net. For the technically inclined: o The disk array now consists of 10 7200 rpm Fast/Wide SCSI disks in a striped RAID configuration. o The disk space devoted to news storage was increased from 8GB to 15GB to handle increased Usenet News volume. o The CPU was upgraded from a Pentium-166 to a Pentium-200MMX. o The operating system was upgraded from BSD/OS 3.0 to BSD/OS 3.1. ABSnet will shut down the news server for about 10 minutes on Friday afternoon to replace a battery in the RAID cabinet. Aside from that, they are hopeful that it will remain up and running reliably 24 by 7. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this, or about anything else related to your BCPL Internet Account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk.
