------------------- MODEM LINE PROBLEMS ------------------- This hasn't been a good week for modem lines at BCPL.NET. Some time late Monday one of the PRI lines on 410-296-5500 went down, putting 23 modems out of service. Bell Atlantic finally identified and fixed the line problem early this afternoon (Thursday), so we are back to our normal complement of 460 modems. Unfortunately busy signals were common during peak evening hours while the line was down. We have also lost one of the POTS (plain old telephone service) lines that feeds the modem pool used by Library staff. This causes a "ring - no answer" if you happen to hit the dead line. Bell Atlantic is working on the problem, and we hope it will be fixed on Friday. In the mean time, staff who get an endless ring can switch to 410-296-5500 until the staff line is repaired.
