MODEM NEWS: NEW MODEM FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTALLED

At about 6:00 PM this evening (Monday, October 26) we finished installing
a new firmware version in our modems in the 410-296-5500 pool.  The new
firmware was released today by Cisco Systems as a "public beta" update
designed to correct connection problems caused by the previous firmware
release, which we installed on October 9.

The problem with the earlier firmware release primarily affected customers
with older 14.4, 28.8 and 33.6 modems.  Typically those modems had trouble
connecting and/or experienced dropped connections after only a few minutes
on line.  Only time will tell if today's firmware update will correct the
problem, but we have our fingers crossed.
