---------------------------------- YET ANOTHER MODEM FIRMWARE UPGRADE ---------------------------------- We have applied yet another modem firmware upgrade to all modems on 410-296-5500. The upgrade was completed at about 9:30 AM Thursday, November 19. According to the release notes, the upgrade is supposed to fix a bug that caused premature disconnect problems for users of certain modem brands. The results after 24 hours of uptime on the new firmware look very promising, but only time will tell for sure. If you continue to experience premature disconnects, please contact the Help Desk by phone, FAX, or e-mail (see contact information below). Tell them the brand, model, speed, and (if possible) the firmware version of your modem. We forward this information to the manufacturers of our modems so they can investigate and (hopefully) come up with solutions. The migration to the V.90 standard for 56K connections has not been going very smoothly. This is true throughout the industry, not just here at BCPL.NET. All modem manufacturers have been coming out with revised firmware releases at a furious pace. In order to ensure the greatest possible compatibility and reliability, BCPL.NET will install new firmware when ever it is released by the manufacturer of our modems. You should do the same, to make sure your modem is as up to date as possible. Consult your modem manual to learn how to determine your current firmware version and how to get and install upgrades. Or point your Web browser at http://www.56k.com, which has links to upgrade information for most modems.
