--------------------------- MAIL.BCPL.NET CRASH 9/21/99 --------------------------- Our primary UNIX host, mail.bcpl.net, crashed at 11:02 PM, Tuesday, September 21. It was brought back up at 12:04 AM, Wednesday, September 22. For most customers the most obvious symptoms of the downtime probably were as follows: If you tried to log in during that period, your username and password could not be authenticated. If you were already logged in, you could not receive or send e-mail because mail.bcpl.net is our mail server, connections to remote sites took longer than usual to establish because mail.bcpl.net is our primary DNS server, and it was impossible to make telnet and FTP connections to mail.bcpl.net itself. We are still looking for the cause of the crash, but for now mail.bcpl.net seems to be up and running normally.
