--------------------- UPGRADE UPDATE PART 2 --------------------- In BCPL.NET System News for December 7 we mentioned that phase two of the upgrade to our main UNIX computer (MAIL.BCPL.NET) would be a hardware upgrade. That upgrade was completed this morning, and required that MAIL.BCPL.NET be taken off line for about 45 minutes beginning at 9:00 AM. We apologize for the lack of advance warning, but the engineer from Sun Microsystems was able to squeeze us in at that time and we did not want to miss the opportunity. For the technically inclined, MAIL.BCPL.NET is a Sun SPARCserver 1000e. Prior to the upgrade it had one system board (motherboard to you PC types) with two 85 MHz SuperSPARC+ processors and 256 MB of RAM. Now it has three system boards, six 85 MHz SuperSPARC+ processors, and 1.5 GB of RAM. This triples the SPARCserver 1000e's processing power, and should enhance its ability to handle the growing load it must carry. If we need even more processing power in the future, the SPARCserver 1000e can be expanded to a total of four system boards, eight 85 MHz SuperSPARC+ processors, and 2 GB of RAM.
