BCPL MAILING LISTS

BCPL offers several mailing lists (online discussion groups) that are good
sources of technical help and advice.  Until recently they were managed
manually, which is a fairly labor intensive way to run mailing lists, so
we didn't go out of our way to advertise them.  Now, however, we use
automated list management software which lightens the administrative load
considerably.  It's a good time to remind users of the existence of our
long-standing lists and to announce several new ones:
 
BCPL-PPP:   Support group for issues related to PPP access to BCPL.

WEBWRITERS: For users interested in authoring and publishing on the
            World Wide Web.

PCUSERS:    For users of PC and PC-Compatible computers. NEW!

MACUSERS:   For users of Macintosh and Mac-compatible computers. NEW!

UNIXUSERS:  For people who use UNIX shell access to their accounts. NEW!

The pcusers, macusers, and unixusers lists are brand new, and will not be
activated until a good number of subscriptions have been received or until
Wednesday, April 16, which ever happens first. Otherwise the first few
subscribers won't have anyone to talk to, and as more people subscribe the
list will be full of "Have I missed anything?" messages. Subscribe now,
then wait for a message saying "The list is now open for business".
 
Here's how to join our mailing lists:
 
o Address an e-mail message to majordomo@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us

o The Subject line will be ignored, so you may as well leave it blank.

o In the body of the message write only "subscribe" followed by the
  name of the list you want to join.  For example, the following will
  subscribe you to the macusers mailing list:
 
  subscribe macusers

o If your mail program automatically appends a "signature" to the ends of
  your messages, write "end" on the line below the subscribe command, like
  this:

  subscribe unixusers
  end
 
o You may subscribe to more than one list with a single message.  For
  example, the following will subscribe you to the webwriters, pcusers,
  and unixusers lists:
 
  subscribe webwriters
  subscribe pcusers
  subscribe unixusers
  end

Immediately after your subscription request is received, Majordomo will
send an automated confirmation message containing important information
about the list you have joined.  Please save it for future reference!
