---------- MODEM NEWS ---------- At about Noon today we brought up our seventh Cisco AS5200 access server, thus adding 46 more modems to the modem pool. This brings our total number of modems to 322. As I write this (6:25 PM on May 1), the access list on ABSnet's news server (news.abs.net) apparently has not yet been updated to include the PPP addresses corresponding to the new access server. Until this is done, callers connected to the new access server will not be able to read Usenet News. This is not likely to be a problem unless we have an unusual number of concurrent callers tonight, because access server #7 is not used until #1 through #6 are all full. If you are inclined to keep track of such things, PPP users will know you are on access server #7 if your IP address is within the range of 204.255.212.98 (ppp289.bcpl.lib.md.us) through 204.255.212.145 (ppp336.bcpl.lib.md.us). If you have an IP address outside that range, or if you are logged into your UNIX shell account, you should be able to read Usenet News as usual. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions about this, or about anything else related to your BCPL Internet Account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk.
