------------------------------ TACACS AUTHENTICATION FAILURES ------------------------------ Recently the Help Desk has received many reports of a message similar to the following being received when dialing into our 296-5500 and 296-2771 modem pools: "No response from TACACS server. Enter enable secret password." This is not a modem problem, nor does it mean your password is no longer valid. The message means that when you called, our UNIX host was so busy that it could not respond quickly enough to user verification queries from our access servers. The access server timed out and, in a last resort attempt to let you in, asked you for the "enable password" (the administrator's password). As of 3:00 PM Saturday, September 14, all of our access servers in both modem pools have been reconfigured to increase the user verification timeout. This should alleviate the problem, but only time will tell. If you continue to see the "No response from TACACS server..." message, please report it to the BCPL Help Desk at oz@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us or 887-3297.
