-------------------------------------- CONTINUING USENET NEWS SERVER PROBLEMS -------------------------------------- In BCPL System News (15 January 1997) I explained that the news server at ABSnet had crashed, but as of the time of that message it seemed to be up and running again. Unfortunately, it has been bouncing up and down like a yoyo since then, and is sometimes slow to respond even when it is up. I have just learned from Howard Leadmon, president of ABSnet, that the news server software seems to have been corrupted as a result of the crash, but that he has not been able to pinpoint the exact problem area. Consequently he is going to reinstall and reconfigure the software from scratch in an effort to solve the problem. Howard warns that access to Usenet News via the ABSnet news server may continue to be flakey for the next few days while he sorts it out, and he sends his apologies for any inconvenience this may cause our users.
