-------------------------------------------------- USENET NEWS ACCESS FROM THE NEW MODEM POOL, PART 2 -------------------------------------------------- At 3:00 PM today (Thursday, September 19) ABSnet enabled access to their news server (news.asbs.net) from the series of addresses associated with our new modem pool (ppp1.bcpl.lib.md.us through ppp240.bcpl.lib.md.us). At the same time access was disabled from the addresses on our old pool. We tested access to the news server at that time, and it worked perfectly. Early this evening we began receiving reports that the news server could not be accessed from either modem pool. The error message being received is "502 You have no permission to talk. Goodbye." This means the news server thinks the address you are connecting from is not on the list of authorized addresses, indicating a problem with the news server's configuration. There is nobody in the ABSnet offices tonight, but I have left voice mail and sent e-mail describing the problem. I will follow up with another phone call Friday morning.
