-------------------------------------------------- USENET NEWS ACCESS FROM THE NEW MODEM POOL, PART 3 -------------------------------------------------- Access to the ABSnet news server for PPP users was restored at about 9:30 this morning (Friday, September 20). The problem turned out to be a failure of ABSnet's domain name server to update its zone file for BCPL, so the news server was interpreting all BCPL PPP addresses as invalid. This has been fixed. As announced in System News yesterday, you must now use the 296-2771 modem pool if you want to read Usenet News with a news reader on your Mac or PC via a PPP connection. PPP access to the news server is no longer possible via the old 296-5500 modem pool. We encourage all account holders to switch to the 296-2771 modem pool, even if you don't care about access to Usenet News. The new modem pool is proving to be much more reliable than the old one, which will be phased out in the near future. If you have questions about this, or about anything else pertaining to your BCPL Internet account, please contact the BCPL Help Desk by phone at 887-3297, or by e-mail at oz@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us.
