HELP DESK PHONE PROBLEMS

As a result of complaints from callers, we had Bell Atlantic troubleshoot
the messaging system connected to the Help Desk phone line (410-887-3297). 
They confirmed two problems we had been noticing with increasing frequency
over the past several weeks:

o Callers were being shunted to the message tree and voice mail rather
  than to a live person even when our Help Desk phones were not busy.

o Messages left by callers were not always recorded properly and were
  often not retrievable.

Bell Atlantic fixed both problems by about 1:00 PM today (3/26/97).  We
apologize to all of you who were inconvenienced or frustrated by the
malfunction.
