USER AUTHENTICATION FAILURES: 14 MARCH 1996

At some undetermined time during the afternoon of Thursday, March 14th,
the XTACACS "daemon" which authenticates users who call in via our
296-5500 modem pool failed.  This caused callers to get a "User
Authentication Failure" message from the terminal servers, and blocked
logins via the 296-5500 modem pool throughout the afternoon and into the
evening. 
 
The problem was corrected at about 7:00 PM, allowing callers to connect as
usual.  We regret any inconvenience this unplanned down time may have
caused.
