TEMPORARY SESSION TIME LIMIT

Due to the very heavy demand on the 296-5500 modem pool, we have
reconfigured the terminal servers to impose a temporary time limit of two
hours per session.  In other words, when you connect via 296-5500 your
connection will be dropped two hours later regardless of what you are
doing at the time. 

This is not an overall time limit!  There still is no maximum number of
hours you may use your account.  When your connection is dropped you may
attempt to reconnect immediately, but in the meantime someone else will
have had a chance at the line you were using. 
 
This is temporary!  As explained in an earlier System News, we are waiting
for Bell Atlantic to install new phone lines that will enable us to more
than double the size of the 296-5500 modem pool.  As soon as the new phone
lines and modems are usable, the time limit will be removed.  If all goes
well this should occur during the first or second week of March. 
 
We know this time limit is not going to be popular, but it is currently
the only way we can distribute modem access fairly among all our users. 
We regret the inconvenience we know it will cause, and we look forward to 
removing the time limit in the near future.
