The work should take no more than an hour, so MAIL.BCPL.NET should be back on line by about 9:00 AM. However, I have the uneasy feeling that Murphy's Law is just as valid in the first year of the third millennium as it was in the last year of the second, so please be patient if the work takes a bit longer than expected. While MAIL.BCPL.NET is down you *WILL* be able to do the following: o Make PPP connections to BCPL.NET. o Browse any World Wide Web site not hosted on MAIL.BCPL.NET (a.k.a. WWW.BCPL.NET). o Access the Baltimore County Public Library web site at WWW.BCPLONLINE.ORG. o Access the Web-based Baltimore County Public Library catalog at CARLWEB.BCPL.LIB.MD.US. o Read USENET NEWS via NEWS.ABS.NET. You *WILL NOT* be able to do the following: o Log into your UNIX shell account on MAIL.BCPL.NET. o Send or receive BCPL.NET e-mail using any e-mail program, including WebMail. o Access the BCPL.NET Internet Services Web pages at WWW.BCPL.NET. o Access any customer Web pages hosted on MAIL.BCPL.NET (a.k.a. WWW.BCPL.NET). o FTP files to or from MAIL.BCPL.NET. Any last-minute changes to the above information will be posted via additional BCPL.NET News messages. For the technically inclined, MAIL.BCPL.NET is a Sun SPARCserver 1000E with three system boards, six SuperSPARC+ processors and 1.5 GB of RAM. When phase 1 of the hardware upgrade is completed, it will have four system boards, eight SuperSPARC+ processors, and 2.0 GB of RAM. Phase 2 of the upgrade will add another SCSI disk controller and two more hard drives.
