UUNET Technologies is BCPL.NET's "upstream provider", through whom we access the rest of the Internet. The connection failure means you will be able to access resources on BCPL.NET's own network, but you will not be able to access anything out on the Internet itself. According to UUNET tech support and local news reports a major fiber optic cable bundle broke or was cut as a result of the work on the CSX railroad tunnel in Baltimore. For those of you who don't follow the news, there was a major train fire in that tunnel yesterday, resulting in damage to the tunnel and the various utilities that run through and above it. The damaged cable is part of the Internet backbone, so we are not the only ones affected by the failure. Internet access for the whole Baltimore area is spotty at best, and the affect is being felt to a lesser extent through the entire Northeastern United States. At this time nobody knows how long it will take to repair the cable, but due to the circumstances nobody expects it to happen quickly. We will post further developments as we become aware of them, so stay tuned. -- BCPL.NET INTERNET SERVICES 320 York Road Towson, MD 21204-5179 U.S.A.
