Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 23:27:00 -0400 (EDT) From: BCPL.NET SysAdmin To: BCPL.NET News Subject: BCPL.NET NEWS: Windows XP Support ---------------------------------------------- WINDOWS XP SUPPORT FROM THE BCPL.NET HELP DESK ---------------------------------------------- Windows XP won't be officially released for retail sales until October 25, but Microsoft has allowed some PC manufacturers to ship XP with new PCs ahead of the release date. As a result, new PCs are already being sold with Windows XP installed. This is causing a problem for our Help Desk staff, who are already getting questions about Windows XP. We don't have XP yet, and we can't buy a copy of until the official release date. Due to the County's purchasing regulations we can't just go out and buy a new PC with XP already installed. This means our Help Desk staff are severely limited in their ability to help customers who have problems with Windows XP. Of course we will get a copy of XP and train the Help Desk staff on it as soon as possible. In the mean time, customers who buy XP-equipped PCs will have to figure it out pretty much on their own. A good starting point is the "Quick Start" guide in the Technical Support section of the BCPL.NET Web Site (http://www.bcpl.net). Click the "Technical Support" button on the home page, then click the "Quick Start" button on the main Tech Support page. The guide provides all the information needed for setting up a connection regardless of what operating system is used.
