In 1997 we registered the "bcpl.net" domain name, and in early 1998 we switched to the current "username@bcpl.net" e-mail addresses format. To prevent loss of mail addressed the old way our mail server is configured to accept both address formats. Mail received for "jdoe@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us" and "jdoe@bcpl.net" is all delivered to the "jdoe" mailbox. An increasing number of customers have been asking that we block e-mail addressed the old way. For example John Doe might want to receive e-mail addressed to "jdoe@bcpl.net", but not e-mail addressed to "jdoe@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us". The most common reason is that most incoming mail addressed the old way seems to be spam (junk e-mail). Beginning March 1 the default behavior will be for the mail server to reject incoming mail addressed the old way. Exceptions will be made for customers who request them. Here's what you need to do: If you DO want to continue to receive mail addressed the old way, send a message saying so to "ispadmin@bcpl.net". The mail server will continue to deliver mail addressed the old way to your mailbox. If you DO NOT want to receive e-mail addressed the old way (or don't care one way or the other), do nothing. Beginning March 1, mail for you addressed the old way will be rejected by the mail server. This is the choice we recommend for most BCPL.NET customers.
