Let me explain it a different way, using imaginary customer "John Doe" (jdoe) as an example: Old (pre 1998) Address: jdoe@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us or: jdoe@bcpl.lib.md.us New (1998 & later) Address: jdoe@bcpl.net Starting March 1 our mail server refuses mail received for or sent by the old pre-1998 addresses, unless John Doe requests that we continue to allow it. Mail received for or sent by "jdoe@bcpl.net" is NOT affected. We are NOT abandoning "@bcpl.net" and telling everyone to switch to "@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us". It's the other way around. For the most part this affects ONLY customers who have been with us since before 1998. Most customers who signed on with us during or after 1998 never used the old "@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us" addresses, so are not affected. You'll notice that the "jdoe@mail.bcpl.net" form of address some of you use is not mentioned above. That is because it is not, never was, and never will be an approved form of address. It works at this time only because our mail server is named "mail.bcpl.net". We cannot guarantee that it will always work. If you use "@mail.bcpl.net" we recommend that you change to "@bcpl.net". This is the third - and final - explanation of this.
