If you were already connected to BCPL.NET when the failure occurred, you probably could not reach the mail server, the Web server, or anything out on the Internet. If you tried to establish a new connection after the failure occurred, you were probably unable to do so. Fortunately I was on line at the time so became aware of the problem as soon as it occurred. I came in and rebooted the router at 10:27 to bring it back to life. I think I've identified the cause of the failure, and the same thing may also have caused the other router failures we've experienced in recent months. Fixing it will require taking the router off line for about an hour, which will effectively shut down BCPL.NET dialup access and Internet access from BCPL libraries for that amount of time. I'll schedule that as soon as I've done a bit more research into the problem. Watch for an announcement of the date and time in a future BCPL.NET News message. Apologies to all for the interruption in service tonight. Chip -- BCPL.NET INTERNET SERVICES 320 York Road Towson, MD 21204-5179 U.S.A.
