The work was actually scheduled to be done early next Tuesday morning, to correct electrical problems that have been plaguing us for some time, but this morning the situation escalated to the point where we had no choice but to do it immediately. Fortunately the electricians and the UPS technician were on site, planning what to do on Tuesday. When things suddenly went to pot, they quit planning and got to work. I was able to bring in some power from outside the computer room to bring up enough a limited amount of equipment (part of our network and about 40% of our modems), so we weren't completely down. However if you tried to dial in on Friday afternoon, you probably had to re-dial many times to get past the busy signals. The repairs were completed at about 4:30 PM (again, I wasn't watching the clock). At that time we were able to bring up the full network and most of the modem pool. One access server (92 modems) didn't survive the power problems, but the remaining 920 modems will be adequate for the weekend. The dead access server will be back on line by Monday night, when business picks up again. There is still electrical work to be done in the computer room, but unlike today's work the rest can be done in easy stages that will not disrupt service. Thanks for your patience.
