You may ignore it if your account was created on or after that date. In a BCPL.NET News message dated September 8, 2002 I described a simplified login procedure that eliminates the need for logging in manually in a "post-dial terminal window", or via a login script. If you missed that message, you will find it archived at: http://www.bcpl.net/news/news.20020908a.login Please note that as of March 3, 2003 we will no longer allow the old-style manual or scripted login. If you have not already converted to the new-style login, please do so very soon. Complete instructions are in the Technical Support section of the BCPL.NET Web site at: http://www.bcpl.net/help/switch/ If you have trouble getting the new-style login to work, please call the BCPL.NET Help Desk at 410-887-3297 from a phone within reach of your computer. Our Help Desk technicians can talk you through the necessary changes very quickly. We have heard from several customers who still use terminal software (HyperTerminal, ZTerm, etc.) to dial into their UNIX shell accounts, who want to know how the login change will affect them. The answer is "hardly at all". When you connect now via terminal software, your login sequence looks something like this: User Access Verification Username: jdoe Password: Welcome to BCPL.NET Internet Services Select an option by number: 1 PPP Connection 2 UNIX Shell Account Connection 3 Exit & Disconnect Selection: 2 Trying 204.255.212.10 ... Open SunOS 5.6 login: jdoe Password: When you dial in via a terminal program on or after March 3rd, your login sequence will look something like this: User Access Verification Username: jdoe Password: Trying 204.255.212.10 ... Open SunOS 5.6 login: jdoe Password: The only difference is that as of March 3rd you will no longer have to select "UNIX Shell Account Connection" from a menu. If you dial in using terminal software, our access servers will automatically assume that you want a UNIX shell connection. -- BCPL.NET INTERNET SERVICES 320 York Road Towson, MD 21204-5179 U.S.A.
