SPAM -------------------------------------------- Our abuse account has received reports from a number of customers regarding a spam message with the subject "How one can become a terrorist?". The spam is written to look like an advertisement for rockets, bombs, and other weaponry of interest to terrorists. The spam refers the reader to www.shadowcrew.com for more information. That Web site seems to be designed for people interested in hacking, cracking, identity theft, credit card fraud and similar illegal activities. I can find nothing on the site to indicate that they deal in terrorism or the weapons of terrorism. I don't know for certain, but I suspect this is a case of one group of hackers using spam in an attempt to get a rival group of hackers in trouble. This is fairly common in the hacker community. Many of you who received the "terrorist" spam asked where such things should be reported. The FBI has an online form for reporting suspected terrorist activity and other types of illegal activity at https://tips.fbi.gov. However the online form is not a very convenient way to forward suspicious e-mail. I was unable to find a central FBI e-mail address to which such e-mail can be forwarded, but you might try the tips address for the Baltimore FBI office: baltimore@fbi.gov If you do forward suspicious e-mail to the FBI (or anywhere else), please be sure to include the e-mail's full header. The full header contains routing information that is needed in order to determine where the message really came from. If you don't know what a full header is or how to forward it, please see the following Web sites: http://www.wurd.com/eng/ABCs/spamfight.htm http://spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html -- BCPL.NET INTERNET SERVICES 320 York Road Towson, MD 21204-5179 U.S.A.
