Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2006 09:43:31 -0400 (EDT) From: BCPLNET SysAdmin To: BCPL.NET News Subject: [BCPL.NET NEWS] Connection To Internet Is Down ---------------------------------------------- BCPL & BCPL.NET CONNECTION TO INTERNET IS DOWN ---------------------------------------------- At 8:04 AM today (Thursday September 5th) the T3 connection between the BCPL network and the rest of the Internet went down. Investigation points to a failure of the CSU/DSU for our end of the T3 data line. We have contacted Verizon Business, our upstream provider, and are working with them to get a replacement as quickly as possible. As of the time of this e-mail we do not have an estimated time of arrival for the replacement. While the connection is down BCPL.NET customers will be able to make dialup connections to BCPL.NET and BCPL staff will still be able to use their networked computers, but will not be able to access anything outside the BCPL network. For example: o You will be able to access the BCPL web site (www.bcpl.info) and the BCPL.NET web site (www.bcpl.net), but you will not be able to access remote web sites. This includes remote sites linked to from the BCPL web site (remote databases, for example). o You can access e-mail that is already in your mailbox on the mail server. You can exchange new e-mail with other BCPL.NET accounts. However e-mail you write to non-BCPL.NET addresses will be queued on the mail server for delivery when the T3 line comes back up. E-mail sent to you from non-BCPL.NET addresses will be queued on the senders' mail servers for delivery to you when the T3 line comes back up. o BCPL staff can access all resources on our internal network as usual, but will not be able to access resources outside the BCPL network. E-mail and Web access for BCPL staff is limited by the same restrictions described above for BCPL.NET customers. CARL.Solution Circulation, Acquisitions, CARLweb, Aquabrowser, and CybraryN should work normally. For more details staff should refer to the instant message sent out shortly before 9:00 AM, and should call the Staff Help Desk if there are any questions about the situation. We regret the interruption to service, and are working to restore Internet access as quickly as possible. I will post updates to BCPL.NET News as new information becomes available.
