We have been working on this from several angles, but finally narrowed it down to problems with the firmware in the MICA V.90 modems used in our newer dial-up access servers. We tried updating the firmware, but the updates failed. Rather than prolong the agony, we resolved the problem by restoring to service some older access servers that had been decommissioned but kept as spares. The older access servers use Microcom V.90 modems and had been operating very reliably before we relegated them to the spares pool. The access server swap-out was completed at about 2:30 PM today (Friday January 19th), and as far as we can tell the trusty old equipment is working very well. However if you continue to have trouble making or keeping modem connections to BCPL.NET, please call the Help Desk at 410-887-3297. Sorry about the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!
