They are still coming, and unfortunately several BCPL.NET customers have fallen for the scam. These e-mails have two things in common: 1) They appear to be from official-looking BCPL.NET addresses. 2) They ask you to send your BCPL.NET username and password to some e-mail address in order to prevent loss of access to your e-mail (or something similar). These e-mails are a type of spam called "phishing", so named because the spammers are fishing for people who will fall for the scam. If they get any bites, they use the victims' usernames and passwords to log into those accounts. They then use the accounts to send out large amounts of spam. We will NEVER request that you e-mail your username and password to us, nor will any other reputable company. If you receive a request of that type that appears to be from us or from anyone else, DO NOT RESPOND TO IT! If you have already responded to a phishing spam, please contact the Help Desk immediately at 410-887-3297 or help@bcpl.net so we can take steps to prevent your account from being used for spam distribution. -- BCPL.NET INTERNET SERVICES 320 York Road Towson, MD 21204-5179 U.S.A.
