About BCPL's Teacher Loan Library Card



Helping educators to help kids is a part of why we're here and why we offer a special library card for teachers and educators.  We are eager to share materials with your students or groups and we think you will find that our policies make this process easy and convenient.


Purpose of Teacher Loan Card

The purpose of BCPL's Teacher Loan card is to assist teachers and other educators in providing materials for the benefit of their students who live in Baltimore County.



Who Is Eligible?

  • Teachers, media specialists and librarians in Baltimore County public and private schools, serving students through 12th grade.

  • Day care center employees and licensed child care providers located in Baltimore County.

  • Home school teachers working with Baltimore County Public Schools. The home school must be a Baltimore County residence.

  • Employees and volunteers of Baltimore County agencies or nonprofit groups that organize book discussion groups or share library materials in groups for educational purposes.

Baltimore County residents who provide these services for schools and agencies outside Baltimore County are not eligible for a teacher loan card.




What Are the Rules?


  • You must have a personal BCPL library card and it must be in good standing before a teacher loan card may be issued.

  • Materials are to be used for the benefit of the group or the student.

  • DVDs, video games, new adult fiction, Chromebooks, Playaways, Playaway Views, Playaway Launchpads, Playaway Locks, and cloudLibrary downloadable eBooks and audiobooks cannot be checked out on a Teacher Loan card.

  • No charge for placing holds. Holds that are not picked up are charged the $1 Not Picked Up fee.

  • Loan period is for 6 weeks with no renewals. This applies to InterLibrary Loan materials as well.

  • No extended loan fees are charged for overdue or lost items. Replacement costs and processing fees for damaged, lost or missing items do apply. Teacher Loan card holders are responsible for missing, lost or damaged materials.

  • Cards expire annually on August 31st and must be renewed annually beginning August 1st for the new school year. All account issues from previous school years must be taken care of before a card can be renewed for the new school year.

  • All other rules, fees and procedures apply the same as with your personal library card.

  • Questions should be directed to the branch where the card was issued.



What You Will Need to Register


Bring all of the following to any Baltimore County Public Library branch...

  1. A completed BCPL Teacher Registration Form [PDF]

  2. Verification of teaching status. This requires one of the following:

    1. Registration form stamped by your Baltimore County Public School

    2. State of Maryland Child Care Certificate

    3. Letter on school or day care center letterhead dated for the current school year and including teacher's name and eligibility for a card. The letter must be signed by the principal, director or school librarian.

    4. For Baltimore County agency or nonprofit, a letter on agency or nonprofit letterhead with employee's or volunteer's name and verifying status as book discussion leader or involvement in sharing library materials for discussion or education.

    5. Annual letter from BCPS's Home Schooling Office certifying your child is being home schooled. We cannot accept an identification card issued from a home school umbrella group providing home schooling service as verification

    6. Baltimore County Public Schools One Card

  3. A valid driver's license or other acceptable ID.
