Book Shelving Day

Quality Library Media Collection
New Town High School Library Media Center will open with a collection size that meets the Maryland State Standard of 18,000 items. In April 2003, the School Library Media Cohort of 12 library media specialists, who are matriculating for their Masters degree in Instructional Technology - School Library Media, began carefully selecting book materials to support the Baltimore County Public Schools' 9-12 Essential Curriculum. Each team member was assigned the responsibility as a "subject area collection development expert." This task required their studying of the Essential Curriculum and collaborating with curriculum coordinators and supervisors in order to target collection development aligned with curriculum expectations.

Book Shelving Team
On July 22, 2003, the book shelving team of library media specialists, Follett Library staff, Don Dent's crew from the Pulaski Warehouse, Ward and Jeff of the shelving company, volunteers, and Office of Library Information Services staff assembled to shelve the first shipment of 10,000 books from Follett, Grolier, and World Book. All books arrived completely "shelf-ready" - cataloged, barcoded, labeled, security stripped along with MARC Records that were uploaded into the Follett Circulation Plus Automation Software. The library media center is ready for students and staff to check out books from this outstanding library collection.
