U.S. Government Printing Office | Finding Aids | Navigation Tips | Depository Libraries in Maryland
GPO Access links the public to nearly 105,000 individual titles on GPO's servers and an additional 68,000 titles on other Federal web sites. Overall, more than 520 million documents have been retrieved by the public from GPO Access since 1994. Monthly document retrievals today average more than 21 million, or about 924 gigabytes of information.

MOCAT (Monthly Catalog of of U.S. Government Publications)
The Catalog is a search and retrieval service that provides bibliographic records of U.S. Government information resources. Use it to link to Federal agency online resources or identify materials distributed to Federal Depository Libraries. Coverage begins with January 1994 and new records are added daily

GEM (Gateway to Educational Materials)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and is a special project of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology. GEM project is a consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to the substantial, but uncataloged, collections of educational materials found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial
Internet sites.

GILS (Government Information Locator Services)
The Government Information Locator Service (GILS) is a new way to identify, locate, and describe publicly available Federal information resources, including electronic information resources. GILS records identify public information resources within the Federal Government, describe the information available in these resources, and assist in obtaining the information. GILS is a decentralized collection of agency-based information locators using network technology and international standards to direct users to relevant information resources within the Federal Government.

FREE (Federal Resources for Educational Excellence)
On April 18, 1997, President Clinton asked Federal agencies to determine what "resources you can make available that would enrich the Internet as a tool for teaching and learning." In response, more than 30 Federal agencies formed a working group to make hundreds of federally supported education resources available at FREE. Subjects include: Arts, educational technology, foreign languages, health and safety, language arts, math, physical education, science, social studies, and vocational education.

Government Information Xchange
This service is provided by the Center for Emerging Technologies within the Federal Technology Service,
General Services Administration. Searchable databases of federal agencies, employment, grants/loans, consumer product recalls, consumer issues, traveling abroad, government publications, passport/visa information, patent & trademarks, real estate, Medicare, small business, and much more.

GovBot
Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) as gathered 1,594,012 web pages from U.S. Government and Military sites around the country. CIIR mission is to develop software that will support
accurate and efficient access to, and analysis of, the enormous and growing amount of information that is stored in text and multimedia databases throughout businesses and government.


Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids
Service of the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). Ben's Guide serves as the educational component of GPO Access, GPO's service to provide the official online version of legislative and regulatory information. This site provides learning tools for K-12 students, parents, and teachers. These resources will teach how our government works, the use of the primary source materials of GPO Access, and how one can use GPO Access to carry out their civic responsibilities.

Courts to Classes
This site is designed to assist educators in teaching about the federal court system in ways that are relevant to state standards and the requirements of the evolving Comprehensive Social Studies Assessment Project. Courts to Classes offers useful, accessible, educational materials via the Internet that will assist in teaching students about the purpose, structure, and function of the federal courts. Maryland State Archives
The Maryland State Archives is the historical agency for Maryland and serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Records date from the founding of the colony in 1634 to the 1990s. Included in the Archives' holdings are colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land and court records; church records; business records; publications and reports of state, county and municipal governments; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers.
