"The Cooperative
Children's Book Center (CCBC) of the School of Education at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison is a noncirculating examination,
study and research library for adults with an interest in children's
and young adult literature. The CCBC was established in 1963
and is funded by the UW-Madison through the School of Education
and by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction / Division
for Libraries, Technology and Community Learning."

12 different formats. Titles are recommended by phase of acquisition,

- EvaluTech
EvaluTech is a searchable database that contains more than
7000 reviews of instructional materials recommended for classroom
use in kindergarten through grade 12. Trained reviewers using
extensive criteria evaluate these materials. Products evaluated
include computer software, audio/visual materials, CD-ROM-based
reference databases, websites, and print materials.

One of the largest jobbers
on the Internet, this company offers books, popular and classical
music, and videos, claiming 4.7 million titles. Although not
catering exclusively to libraries, this site does provide a "Kids"
link worth browsing. When searching for a specific title or subject,
Amazon.com will provide results along with suggesting other related
titles that you might want to consider. Lists of award winners
are also available on this site.

Great publisher of professional books for library media specialists
- Baker
and Taylor
This is another jobber's
website which contains information on products and services.
Topcat! is their online catalog which features 49,000
books for school libraries. Baker and Taylor also services public,
academic, and governmental libraries. Built into the school library
part of the site is a current list of award-winning titles.
- Follett Library Resources: Titlewave
FLR is a full-service
wholesaler to school libraries. Titlewave is their online
catalog comprising over 85,000 books and CD-ROM titles. This
free online service allows librarians to create collection development
lists, search for individual titles, and obtain printed results
to request quotes and submit orders. The database allows for
searching by title, author, subject, etc. It also includes information
about Accelerated Reader and Electronic Bookshelf titles.

sites for students, teacher, and parents. She read reviews and
conducted her own searches to find appropirate sites to include.
She has also created s focused webpage on famous Marylanders.
Connie states that "it is helpful to have the students go
to a focused webpage to fine information they are looking for.
This saves valuable class time because she searches ahead of
atime for all the sites to incude on the list that are age appropirate
and safe for children to use." Congratulations Connie!
