Thomas Ward (29)Sixth of "Woodlawn". Sassafras Neck.Index for Ward and Associated Families of Sassafras Neck, Cecil County, Maryland Son of Thomas Veazey (22) and Mary McLane Ward Born January 21, 1847, twin brother of William Ward (25). He was grandson of Dr. Allan McLane and great great grandson of Allan McLane, an officer and Revolutionary War Hero of the Revolution of 1776. He lived at Woodlawn practically all his life and was noted for his cordial hospitality. He held no public offices and like his father contented himself with his home life. He married October 16, 1877 at the Episcopal Church at Smyrna, Delaware, Henrietta George Davis, daughter of Henry George Davis and Elizabeth Caldwell Davis who lived near Wye Mills, Talbot County, Maryland. Henrietta George Davis was a granddaughter of Isaac Davis, great granddaughter of Judge Jehu Davis of Smyrna, Delaware and great great granddaughter of Thomas Davis of Worcester Co., Maryland. Henrietta George Davis' mother was Elizabeth Caldwell, daughter of Jabez Caldwell and Sarah Hardcastle. Henrietta was granddaughter of Captain Joseph Caldwell of Kent Co., Delaware. He died at Woodlawn August 19, 1890, and was buried in the Ward lot in St. Stephens Churchyard. After his death his widow and children held the homestead and lived there for a number of years. They finally removed to Baltimore and the place has been sold during the present year, 1907. Thomas Ward (29), the Sixth of Woodlawn, is thus the last Ward of Woodlawn who lived at and managed the place. His widow's long care and devotion to the old homestead and to her husband and family fairly entitled her to be styled "Seventh of Woodlawn" but in these genealogical notes her reign must be taken as part of her husband's. Whoever treasures the memory of this branch of the Ward family must also ever hold her in affectionate remembrance. The children are as follows:
