Of course I had to start the page with a quote from Field of Dreams! What
other movie has produced such epic baseball quotes. Consider the famous "If you build
it, he will come" and it's mysterious meaning. Build what? Who will come? A whole
movie built around unravelling those 6 little words!
Baseball is fascinating. All the numbers, the stats, the history - all create a link
between the present moment and the past. Terence has it exactly right. And then there
is the suspense, the ambiance, the total immersion in something totally trivial and
irrelevant that puts reality on the back burner. Forget the mortgage on the farm, go
watch baseball!
