The Supper at Emmaus

 Caravaggio (1571-1610)

I believe along with St. Jerome and the Church that “ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ.”

I also believe with the Church that the Eucharistic celebration of the Mass is the “source and summit of the Christian life.”

And that in the Mass we encounter Christ in the Word proclaimed from scripture and in the Pascal banquet that is the wedding feast of the Lamb, where the Bride, the Church, is united with her Bridegroom, the Lord.

This web site

is a layman’s effort to provide brief, not comprehensive, answers with a scriptural emphasis to questions about or misunderstandings of Catholic beliefs and practices.

Whether you are a Catholic or not, I hope to share with you a better understanding of the biblical foundations and expressions of the Catholic Faith and give a reason for the hope that is in me (1 Peter 3: 15).

I echo the great high priestly prayer of Jesus that we all  “may be one; even as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and thou in me, so that they may be perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou has sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.”

John 17: 20-24
