SEP FALL MIGRATION AT CROMWELL VALLEY PARK: Introductory walks for small groups of beginning birders and new members. Cromwell Valley Park: from Baltimore Beltway (I-695) take Exit 29A Cromwell Bridge Road. Turn north (away from the city) onto Cromwell Bridge Road. In 1.5 miles, turn left at the park sign "Willow Grove Farm." Drive down the long entrance driveway, across the stream and park on left in lot near the information kiosk. These walks are intended to be as flexible as possible to fit the scheduling needs of both leader and participants. Please schedule your walk 3-5 days in advance to be able to take weather forecasts into consideration. Diverse habitat includes stream, woods & fields. Trails can be limited to fairly easy stream side walking or include moderately steep uphill according to the capacity of participants. Walks can be as long or short as desire and time allow. Turn right on Nursery Rd., right on Hammond's Ferry Rd., then left into Park & Ride lot -- OR meet at 9:00 a.m. at Bombay Hook NWR, Delaware. From Bay Bridge follow R. 301 N about 34 miles; turn right at Rt. 300, travel 19 miles to Kenton, DE; turn right at Rt. 42, 8 miles to Leipsic; left at Rt. 9, 1.5 miles to inconspicuous Bombay Hook marker; right to Visitor Center. Drive time from Bay Bridge about 1.5 hours. For a wide variety of migrating shorebirds. Possible spectacular assemblage of breeding plumage Turnstones, Sanderlings, and Red Knots. JUNE 1 (Sun) 7:30 a.m. BIRDS ALONG THE JONES FALLS. 19th century Baltimore still lives along these Jones Falls streets lined by factories and picturesque stone homes. See Yellow-crowned Night Heron and families of Wood Duck at the lovely "Horseshoe Falls" built over 100 years ago. Within sight of the local TV tower is a treasure of surprising birds that include both Oriole species, Common Yellowthroat and Yellow Warblers, Indigo Bunting, Wood Thrush and other surprises. Due to possible Loyola stadium development of area, check with Brian to confirm that the walk is a go. From I-695 Beltway exit 18 Liberty Rd. go west 4 miles, bear right onto Deer Park Rd just before traffic light and water tower, go 2 miles to historical marker, overlook and gravel lot on left. Trip to Soldier's Delight for nesting birds, including possible Scarlet Tanager, Yellow-breasted Chat, White-eyed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Field Sparrow, Hooded, Prairie and Black-and-white Warblers.
